I could see right away that Kyle had a tendency to crunch over the ball. I got him to keep his chest up and he was able to kick the ball much better. He hits a very smooth and consistent ball and I just tried to adjust a few things that I believed would make him a better kicker.
After working with Kyle on his field goals, we moved to his kickoffs. Kyle admitted that he did not kick very many touchbacks on kickoffs. I believe that one of the main reasons he was lacking distance on his kicks was that he was kicking at the ball rather than kicking through it. Once I got him to be more under control he was kicking them higher and farther than he had before.
On the final day we worked on punting. I introduced him to the Drop Progression Drill. He was a little hesitant at first but then began to become more comfortable. He started hitting some booming punts with great hang time. I don't believe Kyle knows how good a punter he really could be.Kyle is a very solid kicker and punter who improved dramatically over the two days of lessons. He is aware of the challenges of walking on at a major Division 1 program and now he has the tools to compete against the highest competition.
