On Wednesday and Thursday Jose Lopez (Carson Newman) got some One on One Instruction for his field goals and kickoffs. Jose is a sophomore in college and is looking to continue to improve as a kicker and possibly an NFL career.I apologize to Jose for not having any action shots of his kicking. I usually take numerous pictures of guys for teaching purposes but Jose was a quick fix and so I did not think to take any action shots. He came to the lesson ready to learn and work hard and he certainly did both.
We worked on the One Step Drill and then transitioned to a field goal workout. He did well with all the drills and all I had to do was some slight refinements like getting him to finish his kicks.
On Thursday we worked on some kickoffs and he hit some booming kicks a couple yards deep in the endzone with hang times around 4 seconds! He was very impressive and he is very explosive when he makes contact with the ball.
It was really a pleasure working with Jose and I really see great potential in him. He has the ability to play on Sundays if he continues to improve every year of college. I recommended him getting together with my mentor, Coach Gary Zauner, and possibly going to one of his Pro Development Camps. He has the potential and tools to play in the NFL and now he just needs the exposure. I wish him well in his upcoming season and hope to work with him one more time before his season starts.
