George Bullock and Tanner Thompson (West)

On Sunday and Monday George Bullock and Tanner Thompson (West High School) received One on One Kicking and Punting Instruction. George (pictured right) will be a sophomore at West and Tanner (pictured left) will be entering his senior season. Both players were interested in improving their fundamentals before the season.

I worked with George on his foot position on the ball and walking down the field. He has a really good leg and by the end of the last day of lessons he was really starting to hit the ball much better. He has a couple more years to mature and grow and I think he has a chance with some hard work. I thought he did a nice job on kickoffs and hit some kicks very close to the goal line.

Next up was Tanner Thompson. Tanner was the starting punter and kicker at West this past year. He has a college level leg and has never been coached. He is a very good soccer player and has a natural ability to kick the ball. As you can see in the picture (above) he has the ability to adjust to bad drops and still turns them over.

I started working with him on punting by using the Drop Progression Drill. Tanner had never been exposed to coaching for his punting but he started to hit lots a Spiral Nose Over Punts (SNO) and was hitting kicks with distances of 50 yards on One Step Punts!

I then worked with both Tanner and George on their field goals. Both guys were hitting some great kicks and I was impressed at how well they learned from each other. Tanner hit a few kicks that would have been good from at least 55 yards.

It was a pleasure working with both George and Tanner and I look forward to trying to work with them again when I get back in town on July 20-23. West High School will have some quality specialists for the next few years.
